Maryland's Drug Crimes: Possession or Distribution of Controlled Dangerous Substances
Criminal convictions for drug possession, distribution, or other charges can lead to jail, fines, and a permanent criminal record. Do not assume that the case will magically be dropped.
That you may not believe that drugs are a big deal has absolutely no impact on what the police or prosecutor or judge believes. When you are arrested, call a lawyer immediately.
Drugs and Crime
In my experience, most of the folks using drugs do not think of themselves as criminals. If you are charged as a criminal, however, you must recognize the seriousness of your situation. While I am confident in may ability to win, I also know that, for many, getting help from a professional counselor benefits their long term mental and physical health. Where I strongly differ from police, prosecutors, and judges is in the belief that the criminal justice system is the best method for reducing the abuse of drugs and alcohol.
My role as a criminal defense lawyer is to defeat the criminal charges against you. At the same time, as a fellow human being, I want people to have the greatest opportunity to strive towards their potential. Winning a criminal case is undoubtedly only a part of this effort. I have therefore often worked with my clients to find options to help them move in a different direction.
How I Can Help You
Drug crimes often hinge on the prosecution's ability to prove the legality of the police officers' conduct. In preparing the defense, I consider all aspects of this conduct, including:
- Did the officer have probable cause to search you, your car, or your residence?
- Where was the evidence found?
- Who else was present?
Understanding the importance of the answers to these questions is critical to your defense. Your Constitutional rights must never be ignored. Learn what I can do for you.
